More and more we see today the tragic effects of extreme weather in our neighborhoods. Whether a hurricane takes a home, a wildfire burns it down or an earthquake tears it apart; one thing is for sure, we need a better solution. Homes these days are not built to withstand what nature has unleashed more than 250 times in the last 40 years. Homeowners and Builders all suffer from these events. However, more and more the market is shifting toward constructions with higher performances, faster build up and lower impact on the environment.
Check out a weather resistant construction technology
According to experts, the United States alone spends on average more than 47 Billion dollars each year due to weather and climate disasters, costing taxpayers an astonishing 1.875 trillion dollars in the last 40 years.
What are some of the effects this has in the economy? Well, besides the terrible life losses every year, thousands lose their homes never to recover them. The entire local economy stops in order to perform proper rescue missions, demolitions, debri clean up and rebuild all that was lost. Electric services are usually the first to go and takes time to get back on line. Construction companies experience an unreachable demand with skyrocketing prices in both materials and labor costs. Particularly in lumber prices, which given current events, have risen to their highest point in the last 13 years.
Given the current market status, even if a natural disaster does not hit any populated area; the construction industry still suffers from them. Both supplies and transport logistics get more complicated everyday. Lumber is getting harder and harder to produce and fullfield current demand.
After the fires, timber industry faces ‘generational’ losses and longer-term supply questions
Given woods long term to cultivate, its short term life span and low weather resistance, is this really the best way to build? Now more than ever we see our industry's desperate need to change. TO ADAPT. TO GROW. Building to rebuild cannot be the answer. According to the UN the buildings and construction sector use 40% of the world's resources as well as 36% of the energy for solutions with so few benefits. All of us have to move forward, to a world that encourages innovations, a circular economy and quality products. Creating weather resistant homes with higher life spans, resistance and reduced our effect on our world.
Thank you for reading this far and we leave you with a short form for more information on this and many other subjects regarding the construction industry's desperate cry to adapt.
